Yvonne Duck’s Wilted explores an unraveling of land, structure, and meaning. Something once stable begins to soften, dry, and give way. Using gauze, thread, crushed alabaster stone mixed with resin, and roots, Duck creates forms that attempt to hold together but instead reveal strain, echoing wilted plants and surfaces that have lost their vitality.
The work emerges from a persistent feeling of heaviness and subtle collapse, with the flag appearing less as a symbol and more as a remnant, weathered, uprooted, and uncertain. The small scale creates an intimate experience, inviting a personal encounter with fragility and grief.
Yvonne Duck is a sculptor, photographer, and printmaker based in Montclair, New Jersey. Her work explores themes of containment, tension, and transformation through the use of organic and industrial materials such as roots, thread, and crushed stone.
Working across both intimate and large-scale formats, she creates pieces that engage space, structure, and the body. She currently maintains a studio at Manufacturer’s Village and continues to develop work that bridges physical scale with emotional weight.
